In accordance with Einsteinian physics, a singularity or powerful gravity well could be described as a dent in a flat surface with an infinite depth. A shallow dent represents a gravitational field in that an object rolling accross, near the dent will have an altered trajectory. The same thing happens when space debris passes a celestrial body.
